Overview
PATIENT SAFETY AND MONITORING
The PGS ankle-worn monitor is both a heart rate and location monitoring device. It is affixed to at-risk patients and sends notification alerts when the wearer moves outside a predetermined area, removes the device without authorization, or experiences an unexpected rise or fall in heartrate. The IPS Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Design teams developed this monitor to meet the stringent requirements of deployment within a mental health care facility; however, the rugged wearable needed to be sufficiently comfortable to best ensure the integrated sensors would maintain skin contact. The IPS Industrial Design team performed competitive research, conducted human factors analysis and generated concept sketches. The IPS Mechanical Engineering team established environmental and regulatory constraints, alongside product requirements-based customer needs.
